The critically acclaimed Flipboard application for Android has just been updated with new features and performance improvements.

With the latest version of Flipboard, Android users will be able to control audio playback with hardware buttons.

In addition, those who own devices powered by Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich and up will also be able to control audio playback from the lock screen.

Last but not least, developers added some bug fixes and performance improvements, including speeding up the booting of the app and enhancing the efficiency of the audio service.

Flipboard 1.9.8 is now available as a free download via Google Play store and it should be fully compatible with all devices running Android 2.2 and up. Keep in mind that this application has been optimized for smartphones, not tablets.
