This device might be the long rumored Facebook Phone

Over the past few years, we’ve seen Facebook working with mobile phone makers out there for the development of so-called Facebook phones, yet none of them has materialized into a device that could be truly called that.

However, it seems that the social network is still pursuing this initiative of releasing a Facebook phone, and that it has already filed a patent for a handset that should land on shelves with a unibody design.

According to the patent filing, the new product will be slim, and will involve “co-molding the display with the body of a device.”

Moreover, the listing shows specific details on the manufacturing process of the handset, revealing a removable sleeve for the device, similar to the functionality that Project Ara should offer.

As Phandroid notes, it unclear at the moment how Facebook will bring the new device to the market, and what it might have to offer in terms of features.

Chances are that it will include a series of premium subscription services for a series of products that Facebook has been acquiring lately, though your guess on this is as good as ours.

Should this Facebook Phone indeed arrive on the market, it remains to be seen how it will stack against large players on the mobile space at the moment, such as Samsung, LG, HTC, and others.
