Shortly after Facebook announced the launch of the beta program for its Messenger application, the stable version receives a major update that brings lots of new features on both Android and iOS platforms.

Facebook Messenger for Android was updated to version 4.0 a few days ago, while the iOS iteration received the same update earlier today.

One of the most important changes is the addition of Groups, so users will now be able to create groups for people they message most. The new feature allows users to name these people, set group photos and keep them all grouped up in a single place.

Forwarding is another new feature included in this update. It allows users to send a message or photo to someone who isn't in the conversation.

With the latest version of Facebook Messenger, users will be able to create a shortcut so that they can get to any conversation right from the home screen.

Facebook also promises that more under the hood improvements have been added in order to make the application faster and more reliable. Windows Phone devices will not benefit from the new features, but hopefully, Facebook will push the update to this platform as well.
