Facebook has just updated its Messenger for iOS to version 5.0 and has added lots of new features and improvements. The social giant company has promised that the update will arrive on Android devices as well, but later this week.

Facebook Messenger 5.0 brings a new option that allows users to send videos from the phone’s camera roll. All videos received this way can be played right in the application.

Lots of tweaks have been made as well in order to make it easier to message, send photos or voice messages. With Facebook Messenger 5.0, users will be able to share a photo instantly with just one tap after capturing it.

These are the most important changes that iOS users have just received in Facebook Messenger 5.0, which is expected to arrive on Android this week.

Until then, Facebook has delivered a small preparing update for Facebook Messenger, which brings the Android application to version 4.0.1.13.1. Unfortunately, no official changelog is available, so we must assume that it only contains minor bug fixes and improvements.

You can now download Facebook Messenger for Android 4.0.1.13.1 for free via Google Play Store. Keep in mind that the application should be fully compatible with most devices powered by Android 2.2 and up.
