The thermal envelope of the chipset doesn't support it

Owners of Exynos 5 Octa-based Samsung Galaxy Note 3 and Galaxy S4 smartphones out there looking to get a taste of the full capabilities that their handsets are believed to offer will be disappointed to learn that they will not get the chance to experience that.

A chief technical expert from Samsung's Mobile Solutions department has confirmed recently that, although the processor will be unlocked to take full advantage of all of its cores, that won’t happen, Hi-tech.mail.ru reports.

The reason for this is that, despite the fact that a simple software patch would do the trick, the thermal envelope of the chipset would not support it.

Basically, this means that the chip won’t be able to dissipate the heat that having all eight cores running at the same time would create, which would lead to overheating issues.

Samsung will update its production methodology to pack the processor with a new thermal envelope, but there’s nothing that can be done for the already available devices, as PhoneArena notes.
