Smartphones packing fingerprint sensors are expected to become mainstream next year, as most major handset vendors out there will include the technology inside their new handsets, Reuters reports.

In fact, a recent report from Ericsson on consumer trends shows that biometric smartphones are indeed expected to become the norm in the following year.

The report is based on data collected from more than 100,000 people in over 40 countries. Apparently, around 74 percent of the interviewed people believe that biometric smartphones will be widely sold around the world in 2014.

Mobile phones with fingerprint sensors have already arrived on shelves, starting with HTC’s One max and Apple’s iPhone 5s, but it seems that more vendors will adopt the functionality.

Companies such as Fingerprint Cards and Precise Biometrics, which are the main suppliers in the area, are expected to gain the most out of this.
