EA has just announced that one of the most popular puzzle games ever made, Tetris is now available for free via Google Play and App Store.

It looks like developers found a way to replace the one-time purchase with in-game micro-transactions. Players will be able to play for around two minutes and score as many points as possible before time runs out.

In order to boost their score, players will be able to purchase power-ups with real money. EA confirmed it will release new power-ups on a weekly basis.

According to EA, the free version of Tetris will also feature Facebook Connect integration, allowing players to compete with friends in a weekly competition, as well as share high scores.

Tetris 1.0.28 is now available as a free download via Google Play Store and it should be fully compatible with all devices running Android 1.6 and up. Check it out here.
