An updated flavor of the BBM for Android application is now available for download, namely version 2.2.0.28, aimed at resolving some of the issues spotted in the previous app iterations.

According to BlackBerry, the update arrives on devices with a fix for the missing emoticons issues that users have been plagued by in the previous release.

Other small enhancements should also be included in the new app iteration, though don’t expect any major changes when installing it.

In fact, most of the release notes attached to the new build actually apply to the previously available flavors, such as a simple signup for new BBM users, a better experience for adding new BBM contacts by email, and new emoticons.

For those out of the loop, we should note that the BlackBerry Messenger is one of the most popular instant messaging applications on mobile devices and that it is currently available on platforms such as Android, BlackBerry, and iOS.

The service is set to become available for Windows Phone devices as well in the not too distant future, though no specific info on when that should happen has been provided as of now.

You can find BBM 2.2.0.28 for Android in the Google Play store today.
