The author confessed to this in an interview some years ago

This Valentine’s Day all everybody could talk about was the “Fifty Shades of Grey” movie. But before going all blockbuster, the story of eccentric billionaire Christian Grey and college student Anastasia Steele existed only in the pages of a book that was released back in 2011.

The novel went on to become a hit too, selling more than 100 million copies worldwide and got translated in 52 languages.

Back in 2012, in an interview with ABC News, author E.L James talked a little about the working process that lead her to write the best-selling book that fascinated the minds of millions of people over the world.

James reveals that most of the drafts for the book were typed in using her BlackBerry phone. So whenever inspiration stroke, James would pull out her trusty phone and type in the passages using the physical keyboard.

She went on to reveal that she did nothing else for two years straight, but the success of the book proves that if you work hard enough, the results will eventually come along.

There’s no shortage of writers out there who have used handsets released by the Canadian company to get productive whenever they felt inspired.

For example, Juan Carlos Ortiz wrote the “Shorts” on a BlackBerry and so did Geordie Greig when composing his Lucian Freud (British painter) biography entitled “Breakfast with Lucian.”
