Just when we thought Dell would bury its first try on Android, the Streak 5 has been given a new software update, and guess what, it’s Android 2.3 Gingerbread.

It took Dell more than a year to bring its Streak 5 smartphone to Gingerbread, but it’s a commendable decision especially that the device was initially launched with Android 1.6 Donut on board.

Several months ago the phone/tablet got its Android 2.2 Froyo update, but no one thought that Dell will release another update given the phone’s low popularity among Android fans.

The current Gingerbread ROM was released recently in Korea and can be flashed on any Dell Streak 5 that runs stock recovery version 350.  It must be manually downloaded from Dell’s support site.

There is no change log available at this time, suffice to say it adds Android 2.3.3 Gingerbread, Dell Stage 1.5 user interface and Swype 2.27.69.19339. Enjoy.
