The information has been confirmed by a Verizon engineer

Verizon and Motorola introduced yesterday a new version of DROID Turbo, which will be available beginning May 28. The DROID Turbo Limited Edition in metallic colors will ship with Android 4.4.4 KitKat onboard, the same version that was included on the device since its release in October 2014.

Although Motorola promised that an Android 5.0 Lollipop update would eventually arrive on DROID Turbo this year, the US-based company did not offer any specific timeframes.

With the release of DROID Turbo Limited Edition, we would have expected Motorola to ship this version with Lollipop right out of the box to make it more appealing to customers.

Unfortunately, that won't happen since Verizon confirmed this version of DROID Turbo will be powered by Android 4.4.4 KitKat.

However, the good news is Lollipop will soon arrive on DROID Turbo. According to Verizon's engineer Jose Arturo, Android 5.1 Lollipop update will be available for Motorola DROID Turbo sometime in mid-June.

No specific dates have been given, but it's better than nothing. We will keep an eye out for any additional details on the matter, so stay tuned for more on this one.

In other news, Motorola is already working on the next Moto X handset, which is expected to pack microSD card slot and LED flash for the front-facing camera.
