The update brings bug fixes and stability improvements

Motorola and Verizon launched the DROID Ultra, Mini and MAXX back in August 2013 with Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean operating system right out of the box, but they have already been confirmed to receive a Lollipop upgrade at some point.

We don't know whether or not they will also get an Android M update this year, but word is that Google plans to announce a new Android update policy this week.

The new update policy will guarantee major OS update for no less than 2 years, as well as security patch updates for 3 years. Unfortunately, these new guidelines only apply to Nexus devices, so other brands are still in the wild for the moment.

But if Motorola will apply the new Android update policy for its DROID smartphones, then Ultra, Mini and MAXX might get another OS update if Google makes it available by August, which is highly unlikely.

Until then though, Verizon has just rolled out a new maintenance update for DROID Ultra, Mini and MAXX, which is not the long-awaited Android 5.0 Lollipop.

According to the official changelog, the update brings some bug fixes and stability improvements. No new features have been implemented, so this is probably an update that prepares the smartphones for Lollipop.
