Google has just announced that it has released a new version of its Chrome browser for Android devices. While this is a major update, since the application's version number was bumped to 42, there aren't too many new features implemented.

According to the developers, the most important new addition is the option to receive the latest updates from sites with notifications. This new features wasn't available in any previous version of the Android application, but many users requested it.

Aside from that, Chrome for Android users will now be able to add their favorite sites to their home screen much more easily. Although this feature has been available for quite a while, not all sites could get their shortcuts placed on the home screen.

Last but not least, lots of bug fixes and under-the-hood improvements meant to enhance the overall performance of the browser have been implemented as well.

You can now download Chrome for Android 42 for free via Google Play Store. The application should be fully compatible with all devices powered by Android 4.0 and up.

It's also worth mentioning that this is the last version of Chrome mobile browser to support Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, so in order to benefit from future iterations, you will have to update your phone's software.
