Japanese mobile phone maker Sony Mobile is expected to bring to the market this year a cheap Android-based phablet running under Google’s Android operating system, one that would be powered by a MediaTek quad-core processor, it seems.

The company was already rumored to plan such a mobile device and, according to a new report coming from DigiTimes, it will release it sometime in the third quarter of the year.

Apparently, this entry-level smartphone will sport a 5-inch screen and will be manufactured by Arima, the same company that makes the Xperia E smartphone. However, no further details on its specs have been provided. Sony is outsourcing the manufacturing of its mobile phones to other companies as well, including Compal and Foxconn International Holdings (FIH). Overall, all three should ship around 8-10 million Sony smartphones in 2013, the news site claims.
