With the advent of Android 5.0 Lollipop update, users who were craving to see RAW shooting capabilities arrive on their Android handset, saw their wish become reality, because Google finally allowed that.

Even so, there was a lack of apps taking advantage of this functionality in the Google Play Store.

The Camera FV-5 application seems to be one of the first to push this ability. The app has been around for some time offering smartphone photographers the possibility to employ full manual controls. But recently the app received an update, which adds a very important new feature – DNG RAW capture.

Well, the app now has Google’s ability to access RAW image data built into it. So the Camera FV-5 app can be used as a raw editor for images snapped with an Android handset running Lollipop.

The new features are currently available on the Nexus 5 and Nexus 6 devices, but as we told you earlier, the Nexus 4 and Nexus 9 won’t receive the same treatment.

Apart from RAW capture in DNG format (DNG+JPEG), the application also brings manual shutter speed with a shutter speed scale in fractions of seconds to long exposure, manual focus mode (in the focus mode toolbar) and real time display of exposure parameters (shutter speed and ISO).

You can go on to download the free version of Camera FV-5 Lite (free) or the paid variation, Camera FV-5 Pro that will cost you $3.95 / €3.22.
