BlackBerry 10, the latest mobile operating system flavor from Canadian mobile phone maker BlackBerry, arrives on shelves with support for a great deal of Android applications, the same as the BlackBerry PlayBook did before it.

Soon, the support for these apps is set to be expanded, as BlackBerry confirmed that the Android runtime will be upgraded to offer support for newer flavors of Google’s mobile operating system, including Android 4.1 Jelly Bean.

The announcement was made at BlackBerry Jam Europe today, CrackBerry notes. This should prove a great development for both users and application builders interested in porting their applications to the platform.

The upgraded runtime should provide users with a better overall experience when running ported Android applications on their BlackBerry 10 devices, though it remains to be seen exactly when this update will take place.
