The launch of BlackBerry Classic is to blame

BlackBerry Passport is the only smartphone to ship with OS 10.3 out of the box, but BlackBerry promised it would bring the new operating system to older models as well.

Although we initially thought that this would happen by the end of the year, it looks like BlackBerry is now backtracking on some of its teasers.

According to N4BB, BlackBerry’s CEO John Chen confirmed that Classic, the company’s next smartphone, wouldn’t be available until December.

This seems to have affected the release of the BlackBerry OS 10.3.1 as well. For unknown reasons, the technical acceptance of the new version of BlackBerry is scheduled to kick off by mid-December.

However, the final version of BlackBerry OS 10.3.1 won’t be released for Z3, Z10, Z30, Q5 and Q10 until January 2015.

The exact release date is unknown, but we suspect more details will emerge soon after BlackBerry Classic’s release next month.

Even though BlackBerry doesn’t really say why it had to push the release of OS 10.3.1 for older devices to next year, it’s clear that the Canadian company is doing everything it can to keep all its promises.

Let’s hope BlackBerry OS 10.3.1 will arrive on older smartphones sooner rather than later. Stay tuned for more updates on the matter.
