Starting today, owners of BlackBerry Z10, BlackBerry Q10 and BlackBerry Z30 devices can download and install the BlackBerry OS 10.2.1 platform release on their devices.

Apparently, the update has already arrived on some of these smartphones, though it will take a while before it reaches all users out there, that’s for sure.

For those out of the loop, we should note that the BlackBerry OS 10.2.1 release comes with a nice range of enhancements packed inside, one of the most important of which is the support for installation of Android applications directly on handsets.

At the same time, the update comes on smartphones with a redesign dialer, Wi-Fi direct, Hub pinch gesture, and Miracast, as well as with a brand new flashlight application, as CrackBerry notes.

BlackBerry 10.2.1 also comes with Picture Password capabilities, new Quick Settings functionality in the dropdown menu, the option to arrange accounts in the Hub, new native wallpapers, updated media player and Twitter app, and Wolfram Alpha commands.

On top of that, users will see that, following installation, lockscreen previews open directly to application, and that there are delete options from Hub (device and/or server), in addition to other enhancements.

Users should receive a notification as soon as the new release is available for them, but they can also head to Settings > Software Updates to check on its availability.
