MTS’ president claims it’s not such a good offer after all

With only a few weeks left until Christmas, carriers prepare to kick off their promotional offers in order to attract as many customers as possible.

Thus, Bell Mobility is targeting MTS customers with an interesting offer. The carrier offers a free iPhone 5 to each MTS customer willing to switch to its airwaves.

Obviously, the deal requires customers to sign up to a new three-year agreement. Those who don’t mind switching to Bell Mobility for a free device can also choose the Sony Xperia T, BlackBerry Bold 9900 or HTC 8X.

However, Winnipeg Free Press reports that Kelvin Shepherd, president of MTS, claims that this offer is not as good as it seems at first glance.

“If I wanted to tell you the bad things (about such an offer) I would tell you that a free handset on a network that is not very good in Manitoba probably does not equate to a really great offer. Our strength is we have 97 per cent coverage in Manitoba, Bell has less than 60 per cent. We have LTE (long term evolution, faster and more powerful than a 4G network), they don't. We have more than 100 stores, they have a lot less than that,” he said.
