Today, Canadian mobile phone maker BlackBerry has officially announced that its BlackBerry Messenger service has around 113 million registered users all around the world.

The company has unveiled this during the conference call for its financial results for the fourth quarter and full fiscal year 2014.

At the same time, the handset vendor has officially confirmed that the BBM service is currently enjoying around 85 million active users each month.

To date, the company has seen 500,000 BBM Channels being created, after making the feature available for users in other mobile platforms out there too, in addition to BlackBerry devices.

The large amount of users still taking advantage of BBM comes as good news for the Canadian vendor, which has seen its market share in the smartphone segment drop sharply over the past few years.

However, the service isn’t seeing increased growth, it appears, most probably due to a series of issues that it still needs to resolve when it comes to its cross-platform capabilities, as N4BB notes.

Initially available exclusively on BlackBerry smartphones, BBM was released on Android and iOS devices last year and is expected to become available on Windows Phone handsets as well in the not too distant future.
