Even though rumors claimed Xiaomi might launch its next flagship smartphone, the Mi5 during Consumer Electronics Show 2015 in early January, this did not happen and the bad news is those who were expecting the device will have to wait a long time to get it.

According to GizmoChina, Xiaomi's CEO Lei Jun confirmed that the previous flagship, the Mi4 has gone through six prototype designs until it was finally released on the market.

He also said that it usually takes the company up to 18 months to release a flagship handset, which is why the Mi5 hasn't been released yet, and won't be launched until later on.

Jun says that his company is focused on delivering the best user experience and the best quality products to its customers, hence the long Research & Development processor for the Mi5.

But there is some good news too, as Xiaomi Mi5 design may have already been finalized if we are to take into consideration the 18-month R&D process mentioned earlier.

That means that Xiaomi is likely to introduce its next flagship smartphone, the Mi5 sometime in Q4 2015, since the Mi4 was released on the market last year in July. Stay tuned for more on this one.
