The oldest GPe smartphone gets updated to Lollipop

Like it is customary, after Nexus devices receive the latest Android version, Google Play edition models start getting the update too.

Just a while ago, the Moto G Google Play Edition received the Android 5.0 Lollipop update and now it’s time for another GPe device to get the same treatment.

The Samsung Galaxy S4 Google Play Edition is currently receiving the newest Android update (as seen at Android Police).

However, you should note your GPe device will not be bumped to Android 5.0.1 (which is already available for the Nexus tablets, Nexus 4 and Nexus 6) but to Android 5.0.

The new build weighs 491.8MB and will bring about the usual Material Design-specific goodies, including lock screen notifications, battery saver mode and so on.

Like with any update, this one will most likely roll out gradually, so don’t fret out if you don’t see an alert notifying you the new build has arrive. It will probably take a few days or so for the OTA to reach you.

Or if you’re the more proactive type, you could check for yourself by going into Settings>About Phone System updates.

The Samsung Galaxy S4 Google Play edition is one of the oldest GPe devices out there, so it’s pretty awesome to see it receive the Lollipop.
