Asus has just announced that the long-awaited Android 4.4 KitKat update is finally available for its Padfone 2. The company promised the update a while ago, but did not say when exactly it would be delivered.

Well, it looks like beginning today, Asus Padfone 2 owners will be able to upgrade their smartphones from Android 4.1 Jelly Bean directly to the Android 4.4.2 KitKat operating system.

However, the update is not delivered OTA (over the air), so there’s no point waiting to be notified as Asus usually makes these updates available for manual download.

This means that the only way to update is to download the new Android 4.4 KitKat ROM that’s now available on Asus support website.

Make sure you download the correct version for your zone, as Asus has released no less than 8 Android 4.4 KitKat builds. Also, keep in mind that you won’t be able to downgrade to a previous version once you update.

The update file is about 925MB in size, so depending on your Internet connection, it can take more or less time to get it. Before upgrading to Android 4.4 KitKat though, make sure you back up all your information from the smartphone, as the update will reset your device.
