This would be the third Xperia smartphone receiving the update this month

Last month, Sony Mobile confirmed that it would bring three older Xperia handsets to Android 4.4 KitKat, but the Japanese company only said that the update would arrive in May.

Even if there is no exact release date for the release of Android 4.4 KitKat update for Xperia Z, Xperia ZL and Xperia ZR, we suspect that we are very close to launch given the latest leaks.

We reported a few days ago that a KitKat build had been certified at PTCRB for both Xperia Z and ZL. Today, XperiaBlog reports that firmware version 10.5.A.0.230, which seems to be another Android 4.4 KitKat build, for Xperia ZR has been approved at PTCRB.

While this doesn’t gives us more details on when exactly the long-awaited update is likely to arrive, at least we know that Sony is actively working to bring the promised KitKat upgrade to these Xperia devices.

On a side note, the Xperia Tablet Z has been confirmed to receive the same update as well, but just like the other three smartphones, this one doesn’t have an exact release date.

We will keep an eye out for any additional details on Android 4.4 KitKat for these Xperia devices and will update the information, so stay tuned for more on this.
