On Friday, mobile phone maker Motorola announced the availability of the Android 4.4.4 KitKat operating system upgrade for its latest smartphones in India.

The company has kicked off the rollout of this platform upgrade for the Moto E, Moto G, and Moto X handsets in the country, and it is expected to push it to all handsets there soon.

However, given that the new platform upgrade is expected to be deployed in stages, some users in the country will have to wait a bit longer for it.

Android 4.4.4 KitKat will arrive on smartphones over-the-air, which means that owners of these handsets will receive a notification when it is up for download. However, they can also manually check on its availability, through going to Settings > About phone > Software update.

Depending on the phone, the update will weigh between 50MB and 70MB, a post on AndroidOS reads. The new platform iteration will provide users with stability, framework, and security improvements, as well as with an updated phone dialer and with OpenSSL-related fixes.

As the news site notes, Motorola decided to skip the Android 4.4.3 update for these phones and jumped straight for the newer OS version.
