Last week, Sony confirmed that the Xperia Z would eventually receive an Android 4.4.2 KitKat update sometime next month, along with other Xperia handsets.

However, we reported a few days ago that one of the early builds of KitKat for Xperia Z made an appearance at EMMA, Sony’s software tool for Xperia devices that allows users to flash software on their devices.

The build in question, firmware version 10.5.A.0.227 is definitely an Android 4.4.2 KitKat update, as XperiaBlog reports. According to the cited source, XDA Forum developer DooMLoRD captured the update and published several screenshots online.

At least one of the screenshots provided by DooMLoRD proves that this is indeed the Android 4.4.2 KitKat update for Xperia Z, while the rest show some of the goodies it will bring.

Unfortunately, while this means that Sony is hard at work to release KitKat for Xperia Z, we still don’t have an exact release date for this update.

One thing is clear though: this is likely to be the last major update that the Xperia Z will receive until it gets discontinued by Sony. Anyway, we will keep an eye out for more info on the matter, so stay tuned for additional info on KitKat for Xperia Z.
