LG Optimus G owners probably lost their hope of receiving another major upgrade for their smartphones. Well, after lots of unconfirmed rumors that leaked over the last couple of months, we now have more reliable news about the next major update for LG Optimus G.

The folks over at GSMArena report that LG has just confirmed that the Optimus G will receive the long-awaited Android 4.4.2 KitKat update sometime in summer.

However, the confirmation only appears on French carrier SFR’s official blog site, which is not a reliable source of information. According to SFR, those who purchase the Optimus G through its official retail channels will receive the KitKat update in summer this year.

The French carrier also claims that the information has been confirmed by LG officials, but there are no official statements available for the moment.

All in all, if the information proves to be accurate, we should see more carriers announcing that their own version of LG Optimus G will get the Android 4.4.2 KitKat update at some point.

LG Optimus G has been stuck on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean since one year ago, so an upgrade to Android 4.4.2 KitKat would make a huge difference. Stay tuned for more info on the matter.
