Android 4.3 Jelly Bean, the latest operating system flavor coming from Google, has been announced with a great deal of new features and capabilities packed inside, though it seems that there still are some buried inside the platform’s code, waiting to be unveiled.

One of them would be the support for 4K resolution (3840 x 2160 pixels), which was found in Android 4.3 code, Android Police reports. Furthermore, the OS also mentions a new pixel density category, namely XXXHDPI, which would be 640dpi, it seems.

Apparently, the feature is meant to provide support for 4K televisions, at least this is what Android engineer Dianne Hackborn reportedly suggested.

“Standard quantized DPI for extra-extra-extra-high-density screens. […] A typical use of this density would be 4K television screens -- 3840x2160, which is 2x a traditional HD 1920x1080 screen which runs at DENSITY_XHIGH,” she said.

What remains to be seen is whether handsets and tablets packing such great screen resolutions will also arrive on shelves.
