Verizon Wireless' DROID Incredible smartphone is about to get a taste of the Android 2.3 Gingerbread operating system flavor from Google, some of the latest reports on the matter suggest.

The new platform release was initially expected to become available for this device sometime in September, but it seems that it got delayed by about two months.

However, it seems that the time has come for Verizon's customers to finally enjoy the benefits of Gingerbread on their devices, and that firmware 4.08.605.2 has already started to arrive on devices with the new OS inside.

On the other hand, the update is said to be of only 8.6MB in size, which means that this is not a full system update, and which suggests that this might actually be another firmware for the mobile phone, one that preps it for Gingerbread.
