Amazon has been long rumored to plan the launch of a smartphone, and it seems that the company is nearing the official unveiling of this device.

The company has announced a new press event set to take place on June 18, and the aforementioned mobile phone is expected to be unveiled then.

A teaser video for the announcement has also been posted online (it can be seen embedded below), and it appears to be indeed hinting at a device packing eye-tracking 3D effect features that were previously rumored to be included in the Amazon smartphone.

As Gizmodo notes, the handset has been also said to arrive on shelves with support for a series of tilt and touch-free gesture controls.

What’s interesting to note, however, is the fact that Amazon has not sent out invitations for the aforementioned event, but that it has actually encouraged people interested in the matter to request an invitation. You should head over to this page on Amazon to learn more on the matter.

Rumors on Amazon’s plans to release a smartphone emerged a long time ago, but they have become more consistent over the past several months, and some specific details on the device’s capabilities have been revealed.

Even so, the device is still only rumored for the time being, with no official confirmation available. Hopefully, one will arrive on June 18, so stay tuned to learn more on the matter.
