ASUS Fonepad Receives GCF Approvals

A 7-inch tablet PC powered by an Atom Z2420 1.2GHz processor

Computer maker ASUS has been long rumored to plan the launch of a new Android-based device called Fonepad, and it seems that an official announcement on this is getting nearer.

Said device has just received the necessary approvals from the Global Certification Forum (GCF), featuring GSM 850/900/1800/1900MHz and WCDMA 850/900/1800/2100MHz connectivity, but no LTE.

The device is expected to become official at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona later this month as a 7-inch (1,280 × 800 pixels) tablet PC with voice call capabilities.

Previously leaked details on the device include an Intel Atom Z2420 1.2GHz processor, 1GB of RAM, 8 GB / 16 GB / 32GB of internal memory, microSD memory card slot, a 3MP camera on the back, front camera for video calling, and a 4,270 mAh battery.

As notes, the device is also expected to measure 196.6mm × 120.1mm × 10.4mm, while weighing 340 grams.
