14 DAY TRIAL // Next month at the Consumer Electronics Show 2014 in Las Vegas, chip makers around the world are expected to showcase 64-bit processors designed for new smartphones, a recent report coming from DigiTimes suggests.
Qualcomm will be among these companies, as it has already announced a 64-bit chip, the Snapdragon 410, which should start sampling in the first half of 2014.
Furthermore, Nvidia is said to plan on kicking off volume production of 64-bit chipsets for mobile devices in the first half of 2014.
Other makers will also bring their 64-bit chips to CES 2014, including Marvell and Broadcom, a move that should increase competition in this segment.
The move is also said to impact the market performance of MediaTek’s newly launched 8-core processor. However, handset vendors will still release devices powered by this CPU, especially given that it will allow them to launch cheaper smartphones and other mobile products.
