The rest is taken by the operating system and pre-loaded apps

The one thing that phone makers note when it comes to the internal memory of their devices is that it varies, and that users won’t receive access to all of it, despite the fact that it is there.

This is the case of the 16GB Galaxy S 4 smartphone as well, which was found to feature only 9GB of available memory, although it has been sold as packing about double that amount.

As droid-life notes, however, this does not come too much as a surprise, given that Samsung themselves said that the smartphone would show less internal memory than advertised.

However, Galaxy S 4’s available internal memory appears even smaller when compared to that of the Galaxy Nexus, for example, which amounts to 13.3GB (also out of 16GB).

For users who consider 9GB of internal memory as being too little, there’s always the option of having microSD memory cards added to the phone, even if it might not sound very convenient to some.
