FireChat is one of those apps, but its main advantage is that it doesn't require internet connection in order to work and lets you create chat rooms to talk to your friends and share pictures.
Stylish interface that could use some improvements
The app sports a really nice interface with a side menu that gives you access to all sort of sections inside the app, but it doesn't have material design. In addition, the most annoying thing is that it doesn't come with instructions which makes this app quite confusing for new users.
It doesn't mention how it works when WiFi isn't active and if two users should connect to the same network in order to find each other on the network. The idea of this app is quite interesting and useful, but the execution needs many improvements.
Connect with users if you can
It launches with a tutorial, telling new users the situations in which they might find this app quite useful. The first thing that you need to do is register with an account, you'll need to provide an email address and username.
Accounts aren't password protected, but when you launch the app you can only register and not log in. Moreover, there's no option to log out of your account.
Afterward, you can check out posts that other users have made in the #everyone chatroom. We've tried searching for a specific user by name and we couldn't find the account on the network, which means that the search function doesn't really work.
More features that don't really work
You can follow multiple users and write posts on the network. Attach photos to make things more interesting and get votes from other users. Create a chatroom and invite friends from other social networks, including Facebook. However, it seems that the app takes a while to update chatrooms so you won't be able to access them even if you're standing next to the friend who created it.
Chatrooms that you've created receive a shortcut in the side menu to make it easier to find. But, the chatroom section only includes recent and popular chatrooms, with no option to search for a specific one.
