One of such apps is called simply Volume Control +, but it seems to one of the most popular in its category on Google Play Store. It has all the tools you might need, in addition to some instructions for adjusting volume on your phone.
Simplistic UI with plenty of features
The app doesn't come with any instructions or a tutorial, but you wouldn't really need it. If users feel that they might need some guidance, they can check out the help section inside the app that redirects you to the developer's website to open some tips.
It opens directly with volume settings and a menu hidden under an overflow icon on the bottom of the screen. You can adjust the volume of sound in your headsets, the ringer, for notifications, voice call, alarms and system alerts.

There are also shortcuts for enabling vibration mode, silent or sound. The app comes with some customization features, like the option to change the color of the theme to blue, red, orange or more.
You can also choose from multiple control types, like dial, button or seek bar. All changes that you've made inside the app can be locked, so that you wouldn't turn the volume up by mistake. Other than that, users can create schedules for certain modes.
You can type in a name, select the mode either normal ringer volume, vibrate or silent. It also lets you choose the days of the week in which the mode should be enabled. Select the start and end time so that the mode can be enabled when the time is right.
Some more features
Users can enable the app shortcut in the status bar or have it use the background service for volume control features. You can also pick the ringtone for the phone and notifications. Sound effects are available for certain sections and the app also comes with two widgets, which are extremely customizable.
You can choose the foreground and background color, together with the widget style. All in all, the app is filled with all features that you might need in order to control volume on your phone. However, it does need a nicer interface in the settings menu.
