Top Music Videos 5.19
Simplistic UI that desperately needs an update
It has become almost a requirement for music apps to have stylish interfaces with neat designs that appeal to users. Sadly, the interface of Top Music Videos app is far from it and could use a 'facelift'. Still, it's well structured with all sections in the middle of the screen and a toolbar on top.
There aren't any banner ads in the home screen, so the screen is left clear for the app tools, but you will occasionally come across full screen video ads with audio that will surely annoy you. The app also lacks a menu with settings and notifications for when new information is added.
Browse through various sections
The app lets you search for music by browsing through several sections. You can search for charts by genre, by country or top artists and songs by year. There's a also a section with Eurovision songs since 2000. Other than that, you can use the search bar to find find songs.
All music is streamed from Youtube. The app opens with the most relevant, viewed and recently uploaded songs on Youtube and plays videos only in landscape mode.
Watch videos and create playlists
Aside from playing videos in YouTube, uses may also buy songs on Amazon or access Google Play Music. Songs can't be downloaded to your phone, so you'll need constant internet connection to play them. Also, you can't play songs and navigate in the app at the same time.
Songs can also be added in various playlists for you to manage, but you can't move one file to another. In addition, the app should update the list of songs, as they feature mainstream artists which actually ruins the whole concept of the app.
Top Music Videos also claims to allow users to set songs as ringtones, but connects to a separate website in order to do so and needs the user's phone number. This poses a certain security risk and users shouldn't provide their numbers in order to get ringtones, as there are plenty of apps that offer them for free.

Bottom Line
Design / UI7
The interface could use an upgrade as it seems rather dated and with old pictures of bands and singers. |
Function6
The utility of this app is debatable, since it has charts with mainstream artists and only plays music from YouTube without providing any suggestions to users. |
Security2
It needs users to provide a phone number in order to receive a certain ringtone. |
Battery7
It plays only videos from YouTube, so power consumption is higher than for other apps so keep your phone plugged in. |
Price7
It's filled with all sorts of pop-up ads, including the ones with audio and there's no option of removing them. |
Compatibility8
The app should work just fine on devices running Android version 2.3 or later, including 5.0. |
Might be considered useless, since the app brings nothing new to the table and people might be better off just using YouTube.
