Solid Explorer 1.6.7

Manage files on your Android device using this neat app
Although there are many file managers available for free on Google Play Store, we’re always looking for the one that has all features that users look for and comes in a sleek interface. There are some top file managers out there and Solid Explorer is one of them.

Appealing interface with plenty of instructions

While file managers are pretty intuitive, instructions are still needed especially for new users who are getting accustomed with their phones or Android OS. Solid Explorer comes with a nice tutorial that provides you with all you need to know in order to effectively manage files on your device.

Solid Explorer has two independent panels for file sharing. You can browse the SD card directory in one panel and your network storage in the second, making file management easy to do even for new users.

In portrait mode, only one panel is visible at a time, to switch between them, just swipe left or right. You can view both panels in landscape mode.

Manage files

You can drag a file by holding down on its icon and dropping it on the opposite panel. To see the second panel, you simply need to slide to the edge of the screen. The app also lets you drop files into a directory. Hold the file over a folder, it will open and you can just drop it there.

There’s also a search bar, to make it easier to find files. Solid Explorer supports many protocols, including FTP, SFTP and SMB. Log into one of these and your settings will be automatically saved as a bookmark. In order to protect your files, there’s the option of creating a password.

Archive and backup files

The app connects to your Dropbox, Box or other cloud storage accounts, so you can browse files online or back them up. The file manager also makes it easy to archive files. You can set passwords to ZIPs and TARs, with GZIP and BZIP2 compression.

It supports ZIP, RAR and TAR archives for viewing and extracting. Solid Explorer also provides you with detailed information about files and directories, you can examine which take up too much memory and see some statistics. In addition, the app supports Chromecast.

Bottom Line
Design / UI10

The interface is well structured with plenty of customization options. The two panel view makes it easy to manage directories on your device.

Function10

It has more features than any other file manager we’ve tested. It even supports Chromecast and connects to Dropbox or Box cloud accounts.

Security9

It needs many permissions to your phone, but they’re all connected to its features. In addition, users can set a password to their files or archives.

Battery8

Power consumption shouldn’t be an issue, but the app does take up more resources than similar ones, especially if you’re managing files in cloud accounts.

Price9

Completely free of charge, no ads but the free version is only available for a 14 day trial, afterwards users need to upgrade to premium.

Compatibility9

It should work just fine on devices running Android version 2.2 or later, making it available to many users.
