The concept behind the app is quite easy, you simply snap a picture and apply filters before you share it. All pictures have a time limit of up to 10 seconds, meaning recipients can only hold and view the image for 10 seconds after which it's deleted from the server.
But recipients can take a screenshot and keep the images for their own. You can add filters to pictures, captions or draw using a brush. The maximum time limit for videos is also 10 seconds. In order to zoom the image, simply drag a finger across the screen.
You can also chat with friends inside the app and it tells you whenever someone is online so you may start a conversation. It also automatically deletes messages that you no longer need.
Some security issues
Snapchat is really popular among young users as it does provide a somewhat private platform to share content between two users. All shared content is encrypted on Snapchat servers and deleted once you don't need it anymore.
However, there have been cases in which accounts were hacked or the app misbehaved and sent pictures to all contacts. Therefore, it's highly recommended for users to tweak settings to make their account more secure and to be careful with the content they share on the network.
