Our Groceries 2.6.0
Simplistic app that lacks many features
You wouldn't need an overcomplicated app for creating grocery lists, but OurGrocery app is a tad too simplistic. It opens with lists that you've saved together with recipes that you previously added to the app. It has banner ads on the top of the screen and a 'hamburger' icon on the right top corner.
Ads can be removed if you upgrade to a premium account for 4.61$. The app doesn't come with instructions, but has three themes to choose from and plenty of settings, including for adjusting the size of list rows and for locking screen orientation.
Create grocery lists and add recipes
It's not that difficult to create a grocery list, simply add items, choose the categories in which they belong, add a picture or scan a barcode, but in order to use the scanner you need to download a separate app. You've got the option of rearranging items or renaming the list.
But when you add items, the app doesn't provide you with suggestions so you need to type in the whole word of the product. In addition, it doesn't use different colors for certain food groups and you can't add sections to lists. Adding recipes follows exactly the same steps as for groceries, but it doesn't let you type in quantities.
Send lists to family members
When you're shopping for the whole household, you need the others to contribute to the list, if they wish. The app has a rather complicated way of doing so. All users need to install the app in order to contribute but they must use a master email to receive the list.
The whole procedure seems a bit too complicated for a grocery list and some would rather simply use a pen and paper, which might also be faster than this app. The app also lets you add a photo from your gallery to an item and add notes to your recipes.

Bottom Line
Design / UI7
The interface is a bit simplistic, while features aren't accessible from any page which makes it a bit confusing for new users. |
Function7
There's nothing to differentiate sections and the process of typing in a list might seem a bit time-consuming, considering that there are no suggestions. |
Security8
It shouldn't pose any security risks, even if you use a personal email address but the app needs access to location services, although none of its features needs them. |
Battery6
Power consumption is quite high, this app could be a battery drainer depending on how much time you spend on it. |
Price9
It's free but comes with ads, which can be removed if you upgrade to a premium version for 4.61$. |
Compatibility8
It should work just fine on devices running Android version 2.3.3 or later. |
It seems a bit time consuming and definitely needs more work on the interface.
