Exchange Rates 1.7.6
Exchange Rates is a nice and steady application that helps you make multiple currency conversions and check the rates for almost all currencies available in the world. However, it's a bit simplistic and won't offer anything more than its main function.
Simplistic interface with few features
The app launches with a message box, providing users with some instructions and tips before they actually start using the app. An overflow icon on the bottom of the screen provides you with a menu containing some settings and options, but the app itself is really simplistic.
It has a dark background and no option to switch to a lighter one and even the menu seems dated and in the need of an upgrade. Users can access the help section inside the menu at any times and the app doesn't display any ads, which is quite nice and unusual.
Check rates and tweak settings
The app updates information every couple of minutes and displays the hour when the last update was made. It comes with some settings, you can disable automatic exchange rate updates from the internet so that you would save mobile data or separate currencies and have the phone vibrate on key press.
The app displays a number of currencies on the home screen and it shows you the parity against the main currencies. Users have the option of adding whichever currency they wish as the app is filled with almost all currencies from around the world. "
Simply tap on one to open the calculator and perform all sort of operations, including exchange, addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. The app also displays charts with price evolutions and opens a Wikipedia article if you long press on any currency.
Some shortcomings
The app is great for when you're traveling to another country and need to make currency conversions before purchasing various items. You can also use it to keep an eye on exchange rates, as it updates information periodically so that rates are displayed in real time. However, it has some shortcomings.
Firstly, it doesn't let you adjust the update interval so you could save battery resources and mobile data. Moreover, the interface doesn't really resemble that of other similar applications, in the sense that you can't make conversions between two specific currencies. Still, it's nice that it comes with a calculator and that it displays rates for various currencies, but it could really use an update and some more features.
