The app doesn't come with a tutorial or any kind of instructions to help new users get accustomed to the interface and to access features. Couchsurfing needs all new users to register with an account, you can use your Facebook profile or email address to do so. The app still needs some basic information from users before an account can be created.
You'll need to provide your location, name, gender and birthday. There is no age limit for couchsurfers, but you will need to provide a credit card for payments. The interface doesn't have any customization features, as it focuses mainly on content and functionality, so it could offer its 9 million registered users a place where they can chat and connect with each other.

The app is useful even if you're not looking for a host, but someone to meet up with and get recommendations of places to visit. There are also events that you can check out and confirm your attendance. Other than that, you can individually search for hosts, travelers or members, as well as events.
The app version of Couchsurfing has fewer features than the website, which is quite inconvenient considering that its users are travelers and they can't always use a computer. In addition, users must verify their personal information, Couchsurfing charges travelers 20$ per year in order to do so.
